{"id":504,"date":"2014-03-26T07:36:12","date_gmt":"2014-03-26T07:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.asadkarim.co.uk\/?p=504"},"modified":"2014-03-26T07:36:12","modified_gmt":"2014-03-26T07:36:12","slug":"the-uk-budget-deficit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.asadkarim.co.uk\/?p=504","title":{"rendered":"The UK Budget Deficit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HM Government last week announced to Parliament on Wed 19th March, the annual budget.<\/p>\n<p>[<a title=\"UK Budget\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/budget-2014\" target=\"_blank\">https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/topical-events\/budget-2014<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>In all the facts the figures, some key numbers about the UK public finances are still very concerning.<\/p>\n<p>HM Government will spend more than it earns in just the year year <strong>2013-14<\/strong>, to a tune of <strong>\u00a3120<\/strong> billion. Thus borrowings for <strong>2013-14<\/strong> of <strong>\u00a3120 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For <strong>2014-15<\/strong>, again another budget deficit year, and could be as high as<strong> \u00a396\u00a0 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It is forecast that in <strong>2018-19<\/strong>, HM Government will have a surplus of <strong>\u00a32 billion<\/strong> in that single year. But between now and 2018, each year the government will spend more than it earns, and the only way to bridge that gap is via borrowing.<\/p>\n<p>So just in the <strong>past 12 months, and the next 12 months<\/strong>, the structural debt will increase by 120 Billion + 96 Billion = <strong>\u00a3216 Billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The numbers are vast. The public finances are in a terrible state. To quantify simply <strong>\u00a31 Billion<\/strong>, that is 1,000,000 (<strong>1 million people<\/strong>) in a line, <strong>each with \u00a31000<\/strong>.
