The size of these companies based on their market capitalisation explain the level of distortion of the FTSE-100.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shell<\/strong>: [Shell A plc] \u00a379,742m + [Shell B] \u00a353,458m = <strong>\u00a3133,200m = \u00a3133 bn<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>HSBC<\/strong>: <strong>\u00a3123,609m = \u00a3123 bn<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Vodafone<\/strong>: <strong>\u00a3111,879m = \u00a3111\u00a0bn<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>BP<\/strong>: <strong>\u00a388,851m = \u00a388 bn<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>GlaxoSmithKline<\/strong>: <strong>\u00a377,995m = \u00a377 bn<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Total Value<\/strong> = \u00a3535,534 million = <strong>\u00a3535 Billion<\/strong> = \u00a30.535 Trillion<\/p>\n<p>However the <strong>% weighting<\/strong> of these <strong>5<\/strong> companies on the FTSE-100 shows how this \u00a3535 Billion skews the FTSE-100.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shell: = 6.18 %<\/strong> of the FTSE-100<br \/>\n<strong>HSBC: = 6.17%<\/strong> of the FTSE-100<br \/>\n<strong>Vodafone: = 5.32%<\/strong> of the FTSE-100<br \/>\n<strong>BP: = 4.09%<\/strong> of the FTSE-100<br \/>\n<strong>GlaxoSmithKline = 3.79%<\/strong> of the FTSE-100<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2211<\/strong> (Shell: = 6.18 % + HSBC: = 6.17% + Vodafone: = 5.32% + BP: = 4.09% + GlaxoSmithKline = 3.79%) = <strong>25.55% of the FTSE-100<\/strong> = <strong>\u00a3535 Billion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So the top 5 corporates<\/strong> make up over <strong>25% of the FTSE-100<\/strong>.
