I thought I would look closer into Vodafone.<\/p>\n<p>It is only you look at the pension fund of Vodafone, one realises how &#8220;young&#8221; this company is.\u00a0\u00a0[<a title=\"Vodafone PLC\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vodafone.com\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.vodafone.com<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>Vodafone was subsidiary of Racal and in the early 1980&#8217;s was known as Racal-Vodafone and was spun out of Vodafone in the early 1990&#8217;s to become a standalone listed business. Fast forward on to today, and it is the UK&#8217;s 2nd largest company in the FTSE-100. A great success story from the late Ernie Harrison who handed the baton over to Chris Gent.<\/p>\n<p>If you look at the annual pension report [<a title=\"Vodafone Pension Report\" href=\"http:\/\/www.vodafonepensionsupdate.co.uk\/documents\/vodafone_pensions_report_2012_clickable.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.vodafonepensionsupdate.co.uk\/documents\/vodafone_pensions_report_2012_clickable.pdf<\/a>] this is when you understand the &#8220;youth&#8221; of the company.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0A fund of &#8220;only&#8221; <strong>\u00a31,078,838<\/strong> = <strong>\u00a31.078 Billion<\/strong> (<strong>BT&#8217;s fund is \u00a338 Billion<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Incredibly only <strong>1796<\/strong> people are claiming a pension from the fund, <strong>13,726<\/strong> deferred members (people who have benefits in the Scheme but have not started to take them.)<\/p>\n<p>In total only <strong>15,522<\/strong> people.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a31.078 Billion is split over 5 asset classes:<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.6%<\/strong> in <strong>UK Equities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>55.7%<\/strong> in <strong>Overseas Equities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>31.6%<\/strong> in <strong>Corporate Bonds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>4.8%<\/strong> in <strong>UK Government Bonds<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>0.3%<\/strong> in <strong>Cash<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Interesting to see the over <strong>60% exposure to Equities<\/strong>, as the facts are simple, with only 1796 claiming pensions, the need for fixed income securities to finance these commitments is relatively low.
